Nintendo Wii Fit- New Gym Work Out? Temporary Fix?

   wii fit

Having trouble getting to the gym? Is a gym membership too expensive? Thanks to Nintendo, you can now work out at home with Wii Fit. Wii Fit is a video game that can be played with a Wii. Using the term “video game” does not justify what Wii Fit is capable of doing. While most video games are seen as making you a couch potato, the Wii Fit gets you out of your chair and into motion. The Wii Fit starts by doing a body test to determine your weight, BMI, balance, body control, and your overall physical health. After that you can start playing different games and doing different exercises that work to improve your strength, cardio, and balance. In my opinion, it is about time a fun way to exercise has emerged.

With the Wii Fit, you can exercise in the comfort of your own home while still getting a top-notch work out. Not only does working out at home decrease anxiety about working out in front of others, but it is also allows you to work out at any time of the day for as long as you would like. On top of that, the Wii Fit tracks your progress for you, so you are not left wondering if your exercising is paying off. When I say “paying off” I mean: Is it helping you to lose weight, stay in shape, or simply improve your daily energy? The Wii Fit is capable of all of these things and is a great way to work out when a hectic life does not allow exercise on a regular basis.

When I first tried the Wii Fit I was apprehensive as to how a video game could actually give me a real work out. Once I gave it a try and did my first work out, I was amazed as to how good I felt after. I was able to start with aerobics, then switch over to strengthening, and end with some yoga and balance games. After trying all of these things I was amazing as to how easy it was and how great the workouts were. After trying to Wii Fit I can confidently say sayonara to the gym, and hello to home workouts with Wii Fit.

Review: Walk on with Omron – Pop this pedometer in your pocket

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

I don’t know about you, but I lead something of a…sedentary life style. With the rising costs of gas, I try to walk where I can, but ultimately I’m not getting nearly enough exercise.

I’ve tried other pedometers, little devices that clip to your belt and measure how many steps you’ve walked during the day. The idea is that you just go about your daily life, seeing how many steps you’ve taken during the day, and then at the end of the day you go for a long walk until you’ve hit your target number of steps.

It’s not a fantastic plan, because it presupposes that the 20 steps it takes for me to walk to the bathroom and back is as valuable as a walk downtown. The goal isn’t just to move a certain amount of space, but to actually get your heart rate up.

Enter the Omron. This pedometer actually tracks the difference between standard steps and aerobic steps so that you know how much of a work out you’re actually getting. As soon as you walk for more than 10 continuous minutes at more than 60 steps per minute it begins to record the steps.

Additionally, the device comes with the Advanced Omron Health Management Software so you can plug the pedometer into your computer and chart your progress over time, figuring out what kind of progress you’re doing.

It’s a fantastic tool for people who are looking to get more activity into their lives.
