It’s common for people to break digital cameras. Whether its dropping it on the ground, taking it for a swim, or even taking it for an adventure into freezing temperatures, we have all done it. Thanks to Olympus, we can now worry less about our digital cameras with the Olympus Stylus 850 SW. This new digital camera is shockproof (5ft), waterproof (10ft), and freezeproof (14 degrees). These features are all extremely desirable, but the fact that the Olympus Stylus 850 SW also takes a picture that has impeccable quality makes it a done deal.

Until waterproof digital cameras were developed, the only option when it came to taking a picture underwater was a big disposable camera with a heavy plastic cover. The Stylus 850 has a waterproof seal that allows you to take pictures (and even movies) in water, which can come in handy while at the pool over summer, a vacation in the Caribbean, or even a party where your camera gets dipped into a glass. Instead of spending time worry about getting your camera wet, you can now enjoy taking pictures and videos with less anxiety about ruining your digital camera. Another way this camera can benefit you is that is it shockproof. This means that if you drop your camera from a distance of five feet or less, your camera and your pictures will be unharmed. This is great for someone who is always on the go or simply clumsy (like myself). While all of these different elements of the Stylus 850 are innovative and useful, it’s the quality of the picture that draws people to this camera. The face detection and digital image stabilization features allow you to take a variety of superior pictures, even when you are on the move.

After using this camera, I could ever image not using a camera that was not shockproof or waterproof. I am ashamed to admit that I have had many accidents with past digital cameras, but am relieved to finally discover a camera that protects itself. I enjoy this camera because I feel safe bringing it with me when out on a Saturday night, or even on a spontaneous beach trip. My only worry with this camera is that someone might try to steal it due to its desirability. Essentially what I am trying to tell you is that accidents happen to everyone and rather then constantly worrying and avoiding taking pictures, you can rely on the Olympus Stylus 850 SW to give you a sharp, clear images, without the fear of dropping it on the ground, in the water, or in the snow.

Review: The Mag Flip Clip is a camping must

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

I love the outdoors – and not just the poolside barbecues I told you about in my  last post – but outdoors, breathing in the  freshest air, under the tall redwoods, among the vines and bushes, being one with nature, red in tooth and claw. Ah, the musty scent of wet earth and dirt in my fingernails makes me wanna pack my bags and go hiking and camping.

And why not, its summer time! It is time to get out of doors and pack my bags and head out. But hey, don’t forget to pack in a compass (remember the last time you got lost), and a powerful flashlight (remember the last time you got lost), and a watch (remember the last time you lost track of time on a trail), and a magnifying glass (uh yeah, you never know when you need one), and a little safe to keep all your precious keys, cash and cigarettes.

You know what, I hate stuffing my backpack with ten thousand bulky things too. And that is precisely why I love the Dakota Mag Flip Clip. I love the ruggedness of the watch that clips securely on to my belt, and the compact design that holds a powerful LED flashlight and a compass. The watch cover actually flips out to become a small magnifying glass.

The Dakota Mag Flip Clip is one sturdy little package. It is water resistant up to a depth of 100 feet so I don’t have to bother about it hiccuping when I wade through a stream (nah, I wouldn’t really do that! Who knows I might drop it in a rapid someday..)

The Mag Flip Clip comes in a little water resistant transparent plastic case, which is perfect to hold all my valuable stuff while I tramp along the trail. It’s quite a steal – make sure you get one before you go hiking next time. This would also make a great Father’s Day gift for all the outdoorsy dads out there.
