Samsung P3 – Can It Stand Up Against The iPod Touch?

samsung p3

With all the touch-screen MP3 players coming out now which ones give you the most bang for you buck? Surely the iTouch is the MP3 player to beat, but does the Samsung P3 hold its own? Well first of all, the Samsung feels a little more heavy duty than the iTouch. In addition to a thin, sturdy design, the P3 has a beautiful 3-inch, 480×272 WQVGA touch-screen. Not only does the Samsung display gorgeous, vivid colors, but the touch-screen controls are surprisingly easy to use. The P3 also sounds as good as it looks.  It offers a huge variety of multimedia support, FM radio, and voice recording. A cool new extra is the P3’s A2DP Bluetooth support. This allows you to listen to music through Bluetooth headphones and manage phone calls through the P3. The Samsung also comes bundled with a bunch of cool widgets, which Samsung promises to offer more of through updates.

Although the Samsung P3 may not make you want to get rid of your iTouch, but you may not need to shell out all of that cash in the first place. The best part of the P3 is that it is about $100 less than the iTouch. Though it’s cheaper, the P3 combines excellent sound quality, a gorgeous touch-screen display, 40 hour battery life, and all around solid performance. Though it lacks Wi-Fi, the P3 is a cheaper, high performing alternative to the iTouch.

What can’t cell phones do nowadays? From photos, videos, and television, to surfing the web, playing video games, and listening to music; what else is there to add to the powerful repertoire of the modern cell phone. Well Samsung decided to up the ante with the Samsung W7900 projector phone. That’s right….the Samsung W7900, or the “Show”, has a built in 480 x 320 resolution, DLP projector. This may not be the first projector cell phone, but it certainly appears to be the most promising. The Show also sports a 5 megapixel camera, a 3.2 inch, 400 x 240 OLED touch screen, a digital TV tuner, and the ability to make video calls.

After seeing the Show in action, the projector looks stunningly good for a cell phone. It can project an image of up to 50 inches. Of course it works best in a dark room, but the Show can hold its own in well lit rooms also. Currently, the Samsung W7900 is only available in Korea, but a release date for the U.S is expected soon. Hopefully, the Show will not be too exuberantly priced so that it will be able to be enjoyed by the average Joe.

The addition of projectors to cell phones pushes the limits of cell phone technology to a place where many are unsure of. Will a projector on a cell phone actually get much everyday use? How much is too much? Are cell phone manufacturers beginning to sacrifice quality for quantity? One day, will we eventually be using our cell phone as our main source of media, replacing TV, laptops, etc.? These are all important questions raised by the development of all-in-one phones such as the Samsung Show. What do YOU think about the future of the cell phone?
