Wii MotionPlus-Wii Remote Finally Reaches Full Potential

Wii MotionPlus

With 2009 in full swing, Nintendo is hoping to continue their success of 2008 with the release of innovative games and add-ons. The Spring release of the Wii MotionPlus will defiantly be a step in the right direction. The Wii MotionPlus expands the already unique capabilities of the Wii Remote. It plugs directly into the expansion on the bottom of the Wiimote, but it also has its own expansion port so you are still able to use the Nunchuk and other attachments. What the Wii MotionPlus adds to the Wiimote is advanced motion sensing. The amazing thing is that it allows your actions to be shown on the screen at real time. The result is an extremely fast, ultra-responsive controller.

This addition of the Wii MotionPlus deals with the lagging and slow response times that were a main criticism of the original Wii Remote. The Wii MotionPlus turns the Wiimote into the controller that we always wanted. It feels more like an extension of your own arm than a little piece of plastic you’re holding. So when you are slashing at enemies with your katana in Red Steel 2 (Releasing late 2009), it will feel more comfortable and natural than the awkward, jerky movements in the original.

The Wii MotionPlus does a great job of fixing the problems of the Wiimote, but it does come with a few drawbacks. First of all, the Wii MotionPlus will only work with games that offer the MotionPlus capability. In addition, new games that support the MotionPlus technology will not be able to be played using regular Wiimotes. This means that Wii owners will be REQUIRED to buy the Wii MotionPlus to play the latest games. Although the MotionPlus offers great benefits, I wish that Nintendo had dealt with the problems of the Wiimote before its release, instead of forcing me to buy an add-on in order to play my favorite Wii games. It will be no suprise if Wii owners become upset that their new Wii console is out-of-date right out of the box. Despite these shortcomings, the Wii MotionPlus is an essential add-on to the best selling system of 2008. All in all, the Wii MotionPlus is an excellent addition to an already great platform.

Nintendo WiiNintendo Wii

Nintendo Wii hit the stage in 2008 with all guns blazing and really revolutionized the gaming console market bringing back ‘fun for all ages’, simplicity, and active movement back to gaming.  With the Wii launch gaming become interactive, easy for all to enjoy, and pure fun again. No wonder it became such a hit where lines out the door for the new console occurred and finding a Wii on the shelf seemed like a lucky day.  The Wii was such a success that Nintendo enjoy sales of over 10 million units in 2008 making it the first gaming console to ever break that barrier.

Well now that we are in 2009 the Nintend Wii is still going strong in bringing on new game hits and adding more fitness & creativity gaming in the mix. Looks like in 2009 the Nintendo Wii will still be a winner and popular family & friend entertainment item.  Check out this feedback from Tracy Gleason who frequents AmazingTechProducts.com on what she thinks of the Nintendo Wii:

“Wii is not just for kids! My husband is 57, I am 44 and we break open the Wii when we have had enough
TV. We have especially enjoyed the games where we can compete against each other. It
has been a great workout as well.  Its amazing to bring it out when we have guest, the ones who I thought were least likely to play end up enjoying it and run out to buy their own wii . The only down
side is that they never come visit anymore because they are at home playing their
own Wii.   Great toy  to get the quietest couples laughing together again. I wonder
if they have the newly wed game yet?”

This quote from a ‘real’ person sounds like an advertisement, but it’s an actual quote. You know you have a hit product on your hand when you customers write better AD copy then a million dollar agency. Well cheers to Nintendo on a great product as it’s not easy in today’s competitive tech marketplace to really have a hit on your hands.   Lets hope Nintendo has some new magic up it’s sleeves to keep this Wii phenomena a long lasting trend versus a potential fad.  I’m pulling for Nintendo as want to keep gaming fun, simple, and active so we can all play along….
