President Obama promised change and Cadillac delivered. On January 20th, 2009, Cadillac introduced the new Presidential State Car. Nicknamed the Cadillac One, it is the first Presidential car to not have a model name. This is probably because the Cadillac One is a combination of a few different models. The car is built on a GMC truck frame with a Cadillac limousine body. Many details are classified for security reasons, but the information that was released give us an idea of what this car/tank has to offer….

• Kevlar, shred and puncture proof tires with steel rims
• Pump-action shotguns and night vision cameras
• GPS and advanced communication center
• Desktop computer and Laptop with Wi-Fi
• Satellite phone with direct line to the Vice President and Pentagon
• Bottles of Obama’s blood, in case he gets injured
• Environmentally sealed to protect from airborne and biological attacks
• 8-inch thick, armor plated doors that can withstand rocket blasts
• Panic button for Obama to call for help

Even though this massive car is going nowhere fast with a 0-60mph time of 15 seconds, it doesn’t need to because it is basically a tank trapped in the body of a car. The technology used in this car is amazing and is focused towards one purpose: protect the president. The Cadillac One is very good at this task.  With a price tag that is close to that of some luxury cars, the Cadillac One is significantly cheaper than previous Presidential State Cars. The irony here is that one of the most environmentally-minded presidents ever drives a $430,000 car that, with a gas mileage of 8 mpg, makes a Hummer seem environmentally friendly.
