Review: I Swerve, You Swerve, We All Swerve for Soft-Serve
June 9th, 2008 by Amazing Tech GuyIt is not difficult to make ice cream. Any idiot with some cream, sugar, salt and ice can make ice cream. Making good tasting ice cream is much more difficult, requiring all kinds of flavoring and mix in. It’s an art as much as a science.
Making soft-serve ice cream is dang near impossible. The process by which most people make home ice cream makes your ice cream too hard to get out in little ribbons of chocolatey goodness.
That is…UNTIL NOW.
The Carnival Ice Cream Maker from Nostalgia Electronics brings the deliciousness of soft serve ice cream to your house. Rather than introducing external ice in order to freeze your treat, you store the mixing drum in the freezer for 24 hours. This prevents the ice cream from getting too hard and helps it maintain the ice cream consistency. This prevents you from traveling with the device or using it spontaneously, but there is something to be said about planning ahead to make ice cream. No one needs on-demand soft serve.
The included recipes are easy to follow. I’ve only made the basic ice cream that just involves mixing a few ingredients and tossing it into the mixing bowl. If you want to get fancy there’s a way to make something similar to fast food chain Wendy’s “Frosty”. I suspect it’s worth the effort. The fun carnival design should make this a hit with the kids, and it comes apart easily for cleaning and storage. It’s an Amazing Tech product, no doubt.
